What Makes EUSD's Lunch Program Different ?
At Encinitas Union School District, our Child Nutrition Services team is proud to serve some of the healthiest school meals in the region. We prioritize scratch-made entrées prepared with locally sourced produce and responsibly raised proteins, many of which are grown on our own certified organic Farm Lab. Whenever possible, we serve sustainably sourced meats, and our in-house pizza is a favorite—featuring organic dough made fresh daily and a signature sauce crafted with Farm Lab-grown organic tomatoes and herbs.
A highlight of our program is the daily unlimited salad bar, which takes center stage in our lunch offerings. Packed with local, organic produce—often harvested directly from the EUSD Farm Lab—it provides students with a wide variety of fresh, nutritious options to support healthy eating habits.
We are committed to transparency and empowering students and families to make informed food choices. Menus, nutrition details, and allergen information are available at schoolcafe.com, based on current manufacturer data and EUSD recipes.
Please note that various factors may affect the nutritional content and ingredient composition of food items served through our Child Nutrition Services program. While we strive for consistency, menus are subject to change at any time. In the event of a menu change, a dietitian-approved substitution will be provided to ensure all meals continue to meet USDA nutrition standards. Factors that may lead to changes in the menu or food products include:
-
Changes in manufacturer formulations without prior notice
-
Availability of USDA commodity foods that may replace purchased items
-
Brand or product substitutions during the school year
-
Supply chain disruptions, such as shortages or delivery issues
-
Updates or improvements to recipes
We appreciate your understanding as we continue to provide high-quality, nutritious meals for our students.
Food Allergies & Diet Accommodations
At Encinitas USD, the health and safety of students with food allergies is a top priority. Allergies are monitored by school nurses, health technicians, and teachers. However, when a student with a food allergy participates in the school meal program, additional steps are needed to ensure proper meal accommodations.
The Child Nutrition Services (CNS) system operates separately from the district’s student information system. As a result, allergy information documented on emergency cards is not automatically reflected in the meal system, unless the student requires medication (e.g., an epinephrine auto-injector) for their allergy. In those cases, the student is automatically flagged in the meal system.
For all other students with food allergies, a Medical Statement to Request Special Meals must be completed by a U.S.-licensed physician, physician’s assistant, registered dietitian ,or nurse practitioner and submitted to CNS. Once received, CNS will enter the allergy into the system, and the information will appear on the cashier’s screen during meal service—alerting staff to inspect the meal tray for potential allergens.
If your child requires a daily special diet provided by the school cafeteria, please complete and submit the form to: Lea Bonelli, Director of Child Nutrition Services, lea.bonelli@eusd.net. Forms may also be mailed or delivered to your school nurse.
Medical Statement to Request Special Meals: English/Spanish
